| Bahay Ni Lola (DVD) |
 |
| Regal's contribution, 'Bahay ni Lola,' combines horror, family drama and special effects. The lola in this instance is played by Gloria Romero, who won the best actress award last year for her riveting performance as the matriarch stricken by the incurable Alzheimer's disease in 'Tanging Yaman.'. This year, Gloria is also a strong figure in her family--except that she is a ghost looking after the ancestral home. The story takes off when a gang of cousins and close friends played by Miko Sotto, Maxine Magalona, Maybelline, Isabella, and Aiza Seguerra, together with their mom and aunt, Gina Alajar and Manilyn Reynes, and a gay butler of sorts, played by Allan K, spend their Christmas holiday in the ancestral home located in a remote town. As with many families, being cooped up in a house for a long time leads to petty quarrels. Evil spirits take advantage of the situation by trying to take over the house. Soon, an evil mist has engulfed the house and it's up to Gloria to save her family from the malevolent beings. This is definitely a big change from Gloria's role in 'Tanging Yaman,' but like her character last year, the lola is the focal point of the story. Special effects are courtesy of Roadrunner Network, which provided the visual magic in 'Spirit Warriors.' Uro de la Cruz directs and has a field day with the high-tech gadgets. |
